Thinking and reflecting today.
In light of Martin Luther King Jr. day I feel that this is appropriate. I was not sure I was going to post it but I think in times of uncertainty we need to stand up for what we believe in, be passionate about our causes but respect those with different opinions and always demonstrate love.
Today I fought for my job. I didn’t like it didn’t want to do it but I did it anyway. I have never had to fight for a job in this manner before dealing with legislation and getting your voice heard. I never have been one to deal with politics or even deal with the talking of politics. To be honest I previously have avoided it passionately, but we all have a cause and a spark where we are in my opinion literally called to make a difference.
The talk of politics within schools and colleges is very near and dear to my heart. Not only because I work for a school but I love and adore the educational system. Getting to learn, to hear and to invest in others. I am frustrated and annoyed with the hoops that people have to go through to try and better themselves. It is not easy and it does not go unnoticed. The champions are the students who do not quit despite those who say there is another hoop to jump through, another form to fill out and they may have never even seen a computer let alone used one. I empathize with them, I mourn with them as the educational system that I dream of is not a holistic reality. This is not saying there are not teachers, employees, staff, and other students who do an amazing job fighting for, protecting, promoting and sustaining programs. I am currently a part of an educational system that for the most part does this job well. I have been a part of others who did just the opposite, and for that I am thankful and exceptionally blessed. Those educational good doers are the angels the guiding lights and the guardians of this thing that I hold so dear.
Today I do not know if my voice will change circumstances. Today I do not know if it long term will make a difference but I do know that my voice was heard. I was not angry or bitter, hateful but passionate about this job I hold so dear and the classes that I have the great opportunity to coordinate. I am thankful for those in legislation that listen so I do not have to be there. I am thankful for those who are the hand up to others not the hand out. I am thankful to the people who answer questions, and calls with a smile in their voice and a hope in their heart that we together can educate tomorrow’s generation, whether that is the generation that is currently working or the generation that is to come.
Today I pray, I pray for those who are impacted, those who listen, those who hear, and those who act. I pray for those that are making a difference not just in education but in whatever realm despite their odds. You, my fellow underdogs, are my comrades, my friends, and my partners in continuing to strive for a better, more equal, more open and more compassionate world.
Today I followed through on both of the words.
Today I have HOPE because today I TRIED.
