Advent Day 10

Day 10
1st Thessalonians 5:16- 24 ~ Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

Forgetfulness is among the qualities that I would rather not name I often have. Forgetting to pick up something or bring something along with me are the two most common themes but there are others. One of them being forgetting to rejoice. In this recent season many times we were asked if we were excited to get married. Of course, elated and ecstatic should have been my reaction and yet it wasn’t. It wasn't because this was not true, all of these were valid and real emotions but sharing this (in my view) flaunting this was not necessary. Sometimes I get the same way with God. It is as if I don’t want to flaunt Him, then I don’t celebrate him. It is hard for me to find a middle ground. Like our faith walk, middle ground is not somewhere we are continuously. It is a place that we meander through continuously. Sometimes we are great at praising and praying, other times we downright stink. Hold on to what is good, even when we don’t want to look at the world around us. This will make not only better people but better Christians. This is the most important during the holiday season when we don’t often give it the time to be the peacemakers and the hope for one another. May we bring Joy to the world even when we don’t feel like it.
