Advent Day 11
Malachi 3:1-6 ~ “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the Lord, as in days gone by, as in former years. “So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty. “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.
I love making dinners. It is one of my favorite things to do is to sit around a table with friends and family eating a great meal. This love for dinners was instilled in me when I was really little. I love the good pies and cakes that take time to make. I love the meal items with the 12,000 ingredients in them. All of the ingredients all mesh together to create something amazing and wonderful. These dishes no matter how tasty they are all have one thing in common. They take time and someone has to prepare them. Don’t get me wrong I love my fast food pizza but there is something about a homemade pie crust with chicken and gravy cooked and separated from scratch that does something amazing to not just my body but my soul. I think many times our time gets placed on trial. This dinner with family or this activity, this business or that peace. We forget like this verse states the Lord does not change. He is constantly in a relationship with us even when we are not. Can we endure missing the busy schedule to meet Jesus at our tables? Can we come back to preparing with others to listen with friends and to learn with family? Jesus would want us in relationships with each other focused on Him. Do we listen?
