Trying to clean the pantry.
So this month I am trying something different. We will see how this goes. I was reading another blog recently and it was about how this woman saved money and did not use but 20.00 per week for her household including food, groceries and other misc. items that were not budgeted within the house recurring bills.
If I could find the link again I will post it here. If I find it after I post I will edit.
Anyway what got me was not the money that she saved but the cleaning that it provided for her pantry and her refrigerator. I was inspired. I have recently complained that my pantry was too stuffed. I did not like anything in it or my freezer just could not hold anything else anymore. (I am notorious for freezing one remaining thing instead of finishing it off because I am tired of it but don't want to waste it.)So here goes.
I have taken before pictures of my pantry.
My goal is to use as much as possible without buying anything other than perishable items this month. To top it off Andrew and I are challenging each other to not eat out for this month as well to save money. So if you do see us out, I still have a gift card coupon that we get something for free or I am being treated to lunch by my parents :) (thanks).
It has led to me cooking more and making up recipes. Thanks to the new mixer for Christmas it is definitely being put to good use. Check out Two Peas and Their Pod I used their Whole Wheat Banana Bread recipe. They are beautiful.
I also used IHeart Recipes Red Velvet Cake recipe and made it with Gluten Free Flour and these were to die for. But it was already half eaten before I took a picture of it.
I am using random things out of the freezer. Last night we had a zucchini, carrot and deer burger spaghetti that was delicious. I can't wait to have the leftovers of that.
I also made homemade empanadas with the recipe of the corn flour tacos and then stuffed with beef tenderloin, peppers, onions and rice and fried them.
This already has been interesting and it is just day 6. I did not stock up on supplies so it will be funny to see what is made day 20 but here goes nothing. The only thing I have bought since was feta cheese and a can of corn for a Superbowl Dip. So I have spent 4.33 so far.
Here is the journey! I will let you know what is up.
