Advent Day 1

Advent Day 1
Isaiah 28:6 ~Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

Psalm 130:5 ~I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.

Advent: the arrival of a notable person thing or event.

We have all had moments of advent. When we wait on something, someone or sometime to happen. I have many of those in the past month let alone in this past year. I have a passion for doing new things and trying out new ideas. This is what drives most if not all of my projects around the house and what often drives Andrew the most crazy. Yet in these moments each project has a sense of advent. There is a time and a sense the arrival of the finished product, the last piece, the friend or family member will make it complete and finish it off and it does … for a while. Then there is a new waiting that comes for something else.

The thing I have grown to love about the season of advent is that it is a season not just waiting on something but waiting on THE thing. We wait for Jesus. Now some will argue that Jesus is always around us so we don’t have to wait on Him. Yes this is true something happens though when we look expectantly for Jesus during the season that gets so quickly filled with parties, planning, presents and priorities that we forget our purpose.

Advent slows this process down. It forces us to wait, to wait, to look for, and to long for what God is doing in our lives. It causes reflection to seek where He has brought us and where he is leading us in the coming year. It also opens doors and provides closure in areas where we needed answers or sitting and resting in Him and yet all year we have somehow avoided His calling and his purpose.

So I write because I am passionate about writing. But I write so that you can truly sit and think about the arrival of not just a present but a presence that often gets missed or forgotten so much of the rest of the year.
