Advent Day 2
Isaiah 12:4~ And in that day you will say, "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; Make them remember that His name is exalted."
Psalm 148:13 ~Let them praise the name of the LORD, For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven.
Do you ever have that person that you forget to buy a gift for? It never fails that every Christmas there is one person that I forget. It is not because they are not important I just forget they make their way on multiple lists to make sure I remember but it never fails when the lists all get consolidated to one page off their name flies into oblivion until the moment that I look for the wrapped present under the tree and it is not there. Vowing that I have bought something and wrapped it for the person I look again praying that it is there, hoping that I can find something or trying to think of plan number two. I have set aside three presents that can be for anyone just “wrapped extras” but this person I wanted something special something memorable. At last I give up grab one of the three nicer presents that were waiting for someone under the tree and tada I have a present for the person I forgot.
Every year this happens. Every year I do something and the person may change but the feeling inside that I left someone out or forgot about someone remains. It never goes away. Life gets so caught up with the present buying that we forget how important presence is when we are with others. We forget how to be support and encouragement when others need it the most. Or, we forget that life happens when we don’t want it to. It is in these panic moments, these dark hours, these hopeless times that God calls us to give thanks. Praise His names for the works that he has done in our lives and the works that he is going to do. Praise God for the moments that seem mundane but show God evident in our lives. When you don’t know who to encourage or who to call start praying. God will in His time reveal to you who needs the listening ear only you can provide, the meal only you can make or the cake that only you can bake.
