Advent Day 5
Genesis 15:1-6 ~ 15 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”2 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” 4 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring[d] be.” 6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
Sometimes I think during the winter the skies are the most beautiful. Think about the times in the fall that are cold enough to have a campfire and you are able to see some amazing stars in the sky. If you have ever been to a remote area where there are not many ground lights the ability to see the stars astounds me. I think of how much light “pollution” and I use that word loosely, we have with our cars, highways, stores, street signs etc. This is great for protection and don’t get me wrong I am an advocate of lit areas. However, when you are able to get away from all of that and see the world as it was created you really feel how small a part you play in the grand scheme of things. It is astounding. The ability that God said your offspring will be as many as the stars in the sky. What a awesome reality blessings more than you can count. Blessings that Abraham didn’t know if he would be able to have one offspring being told by God that he could not count all the stars in the universe and that would be how massive his offspring is, is mind blowing.
God is willing to give us more than we ask or imagine. He is able to bless us beyond our wildest dreams. Our plans are not his plans. We have a choice to be like Abraham and believe or not. The choice is up to us.
