Trip two complete.
So yesterday we wrapped up trip two in the town of San Luis which is literally not on any map. You drive north past orange walk and when you see a certain bus stop and dirt road you take a left and down the dirt road between fields of sugar cane one sacred lion king tree you follow it until you stumble upon this remote village of about 300-400 people. The setting is hot and sticky and it has just poured rain. The guys are staying in a small community center and the girls are staying in the pastors house which is also the Sunday school building as well as some of us stayed in the church. Lucky to finally after many years to having bathrooms and running water. The group stationed here is 31 people from Houston Texas. Thinking they would all have a certain accent they actually we play speaking accents the entire trip so I had no idea what they actually talked like.
They were assigned to mix concrete pour a floor and a foundation, paint the community center and inside and outside of the church. They got all of this accomplished as well as moving a pile of cinder blocks taller than me to the other side of the church.
The Mosquitos were monsters and the amount of bug spray and deet that was used astounded me but was necessary. They did a great bible school and each day was color coated according to the colors on the salvation bracelet and that was cool.
The locals again fixed us food and there was a large variety. From tacos, tamales, fried jacks, eggs, BBQ chicken, and dirty rice. It was all really tasty. I have found they randomly like to use cabbage in things that we would not normally do, as well as this group loved the hot sauce (I'm not a fan).
When we came out to the Caye I went with them snorkeling and it was fun. I was unsure how I was going to do, seeing last time I went snorkeling I was in Belize at this same key and I had to come back in because I got sea sick. God got me through and it was great to see all the fish underneath my feet. I swam with nurse sharks and sting rays and that was crazy. I touched them both :). Then we came back in and had dinner and the group did a really cool concept. They went around with all 31 people and had a time for everyone to get affirmed. Tears were shed for many had brothers or sisters on the trip. It took 3 hours but it was really worth it.
Then Saturday they got up and took the 12 water taxi after having a time of baptism for four people in the ocean which was really cool!
Now Kelly and I have off until Tuesday but we have to take Jason to the airport and meet up with Amir on Monday to get ready for our group of Mennonites to come in (this could prove interesting) and we will be in an area called August Pine Ridge, staying at a school.
That is all I know now. I was able to get mail yesterday Celina checked the po box! Thank you so much for those who sent cards!! They are great. I will talk to you soon! Good luck on the start of FBC bible school tomorrow I know it will be amazing! Also happy belated birthday to Memama and Paul!!!
Love to all!! See you soon!
