Pressure washing areas of my life.
Pressure washing areas of my life.
You may laugh at the title. I did.
Pressure washing. This natural phenomenon was foreign to me
until yesterday. I did not understand the deal and why people always talked
about pressure washing or that being a method if cleaning something. I
understood the concept. High powered water being forced on something to expel
grossness. However, I had not seen it for my own eyes until yesterday.
The beauty of blending families is that we can provide in
different ways for one another and Andrew’s mom had a pressure washer and she
allowed me to use it. So out came the instructor, Andrew, teaching me how to
use and maneuver this thing. It was interesting at first. Slow and awkward. It
was trying to get the right pressure in the right place to clean the right
thing. A bunch of thought had to go into this. Yet within minutes of practice a
natural rhythm began to happen and I was whisking away years of grim into my
mulch and getting it on my legs and feet and the smile on my face was crazy
huge. To see this instant gratification of washing away dirt. To understand
that what once was dirty is now clean it is joy. Now I like having clean dishes
and washed laundry but that always gets dirty almost instantaneously after I
finish putting away the last thing. Yet this I knew would stay longer. I
powered through the rest of the side walk slowing wafting the wand of the
pressure washer back and forth as it wiped away 1-3 inches of dirt off the
sidewalk. Then it was finished. I started on the driveway and then got too
carried away and all of the sudden accidentally pressure washed my toes.
Needless to say that was not fun. They stung and burned and today they are
still burning. It is amazing how this much force can be used to clean one thing
but not used to clean another.
Right before it rained. I mean it poured. I wasn’t worried
though because that rain would just help wash off more grime.
We get stuck in places like this. Not sure where in our
lives to use a pressure washer to wash away the hurt, pain or sadness, or if we
should use the washing machine on the cold gentle cycle. Different times call
for different levels of cleaning. We may do quick cleaning throughout the year
of our house but typically fall or spring there is a “deep cleaning” a pressure
washer cleaning of our house where we clean things that we don’t think about
but once a year. Do we do this with our faith? At points do we try and get
close enough to God to clean things out once a year but avoid the deep cleaning
because it hurts the rest of the year? Many would argue that if we just washed
off the sidewalk each time we got something on it, it would reduce the time we
would have to spend later pressure washing. There is truth to this. The more
often we are in deep relationship with God the deeper we are able to dive into
his word without his words stinging but his words supporting, encouraging and
equipping. Our toes don’t burn from the
water hose but from the pressure washer.
So happy to have the ability to pressure wash this evening
and get even more clean. So happy to have someone who helps make the deep
cleaning fun and so happy to have a God who takes us dirty and clean and
everywhere in between.
Here is to making the house a home.
