Advent Day 19
John 1:9-18
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[a] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
Have you ever not recognized someone? I do it all the time. There are people that I see all over the place that I think I know and I will spend hours thinking about where I know a person from and how I met them. Sometimes I will wake up the next day and the connection pops in my head and I go on with my business. What is worse though is when people come up to me say my full name and sometimes even comment on things that are happening currently in my life and I have NO CLUE where or how they know me. The world did not recognize Christ and that is a scary thought. To imagine we were unable to recognize our creator is hard for me to grasp. Yet, I understand that many times I don’t see things because of my perspective or my proximity to the situation.
I have heard of people and their works all over the world and because I have not met them does not deny their existence. Because I have not seen God does not deny that he is there. What confirms his existence is the relationship with the son and the grace that we are given daily. Through these arenas God is seen, he is witnessed and he is revealed. Light is given to the world in a crazy new way and we have the opportunity to share it with others.
Where do we need to change our perspective to see God?
