Advent Day 4
Psalm 89:1-4 ~ 1 I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. 2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. 3 You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, 4 ‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
There is so much beauty in this verse. I love that God has established his faithfulness in heaven. A faithfulness that will not waiver or weary but a faithfulness that is firm and solid that we can count and rest in and on. It is hard to have faith in things at times. We struggle to have faith in certain people because of past experiences or certain places. This shows the temperamental nature of our faith. When things are good we are solid but when things come and challenge or test our faith we have to choose what we are going to believe. This choice is hard, requires encouragement, hope and wisdom to see not only instantaneous results but long term lasting effects. David understood this and his beautiful depiction of the praise he had and felt for God is stunning and evident. Singing of a love forever, declaring your love, making a covenant are all long term lasting things that God promises us through his word. These take commitment from us to show God these traits in return. Commitment that requires choosing God over man. Commitment requires choosing joy and hope when everything in your soul wants to choose the opposite. God wants us to feel loved at our lowest and show love every moment we can establishing a generational love between God and man that we miraculously get to be a part.
